grinds my gears

Hello friends, i have had a little break from blogging having been on holiday to both Barcelona and Amsterdam in the last few weeks i haven't had a lot of time. But i am back with a little grievance i would like to vent, Cinemas.

I absolutely love the cinema, it is possibly my favourite thing to do, but there is nothing worse than cinemas in the Blackpool area. I am blesses with a Vue cinema down the road from me, which is great when they show films i want to see but it is a constant gamble. Then we have an Odeon a 15 minute drive away which is the back up, but really i have never once used it as a back up because whatever the Vue isn't showing the Odeon isnt showing either. Of course we get the kids films and the generic american comedy films that everyone 'loves' but we hardly ever get the really good films, like the new film i am dying to see The Place Beyond The Pines. Where will i get my Ryan Gosling fix??
I have missed out on so many films and i know through friends and family that they have too, why don't they show these films, take our money and keep us all happy?

(p.s, not to worry i will get my Ryan Gosling fix in manchester and tell you all about it)

History is coming!

(had to remove the last two images as publishing the competition entries with the logos on is not permitted, sorry!)

A building hoarding i designed for the V&A, done in 6 sections so you can see the detail clearly within the hoarding. The concept follows the women in line outside the V&A from the 1850s which is when The Great Exhibition was held from which the fundings helped establish the V&A in the same decade. It follows the women through the decades, showing the surrounding area 'Albertopolis' various buildings appear when they were established along the timeline, with various methods of transport and other things which affected London but keeping it closely connected with the area. The blank women in between are for the public to get involved with the hoarding, be a part of the line and have their photo taken. Get in line, history is coming!

A little trip to London

For a brief im working on at uni involving the V&A me and my boyfriend decided to take a few days out and get over to London, what with valentines heading our way we fixed it so we got to spend the day in London doing research for me and general valentinesy things too!

first stop was the V&A i got all my photos taken and notes written and we had a look inside, a little annoying that the hollywood costume exhibition had just ended and the david bowie one had not yet started. Then we went on over to hyde park and rode bikes through it, it was such a lovely sunny day too which made it even more fun, we hopped off and got some dinner at our favourite place, yo sushi! We went over to Brick Lane so Jake could check out a gallery he is exhibiting at in june, then we had some yummy cake in a lovely independent cinema. We had no time to see a movie there but i bet it would of been fantastic! After stocking up on cake and tea we went over to The Tate Modern which was great, another shame that the lichtenstein exhibition wasn't on yet though. As we were leaving it had started to go dark so we crossed the bridge and took in all the sights which was really nice in the dark! Last stop was tea at Giraffe and a few strawberry ciders.

did you get up to anything exciting?

Vicarious Living

Last night, finally, i watched my new dvd - Drive. Firstly let me tell you all, if i had watched this last year when it actually came out i would of definitely put this in my favourite films of 2012. I know i've said there is nobody cooler than Ryan Gosling in Gangster Squad but after watching this i can officially say, there literally is nobody cooler than him in Drive. I absolutely loved it, the fact there was hardly any talking and a lot of glaring at each other i loved even more, it added to the whole suspense of the film. I've never been a big Ryan Gosling fan considering his long string of rom com movies but this year has completely changed my mind, films like Drive and Gangster Squad really show off how good of an actor he is (also a total babe). So in conclusion i absolutely loved it, great film, great soundtrack, great actors and really cool 80s style to it. A big 5/5 from me, if you havent seen it, go now.
Now i am in a full Ryan Gosling love in, i want to share with you, if you havent heard already his new film is out in early April -

The Place Beyond The Pines

Dare i say it i think he might be even cooler in this film.

Also this week i caught up on one of the dvds i got for christmas, Albatross. Starring Jessica Brown Findlay from Downton Abbey and my personal favourite Felicity Jones. I was really surprised with this film, a really great coming-of-age comedy about friendship, love and life. Set in the Isle of Man which looks so nice, while watching i was daydreaming slightly of a mini break there. A really nice, laid back, fun, quirky, british comedy. Just what i needed. Mum and dad gave it a 3.5/5 but i gave it a 4!

This morning i woke up to the lovely beautymilk nominating me for the Liebster Award, for new bloggers. I am in process of completing the post but due to the fact i am new to this i am looking for blogs with under 200 followers to select, if this applies to you please share your blogs with me.

Eating Snow

I thought i would introduce you all to a little madam in my life - Macey! A few snaps from our walk to the park the other day, she was more excited than usual as she loves the snow, she thinks the floor is covered in food (snow). She will be a big 13 this year, but she is still a young whipper snapper. I hope you have all enjoyed the snow like macey and been making the most of it.

This week so far i have been getting prepared for a new brief at uni, buying myself a sketchbook and getting motivated. I have also bought myself yet another dvd to add to my collection 'In Bruges' which i have never seen but have only ever heard great things about, i will watch and report back with my review soon. As a side note i checked out the hmv sale today, i was shocked to see my film of 2012 at £5 already, incase you hadnt seen my top five films of 2012 on my twitter @laurenamiparker then here it is again for you

4, Skyfall
